CEO - New Origin

Biography

Twan Korthorst is active in the field of chip design and fabrication for non-traditional semiconductor micro and nano technologies (MEMS, microfluidics, integrated photonics) for over 30 years. He co-founded Microflown Technologies, commercializing world’s smallest microphone in 1994 and graduated from the University of Twente (The Netherlands) in 1996 as Electrotechnical Engineer. He joined PhoeniX Software in 2007, as the CEO, and developed the company into a leading global supplier of design solutions for photonic ICs. In 2018, Synopsys acquired PhoeniX Software, where he was responsible for the photonic IC strategy across the company and developing industry’s first unified electronic and photonic design solution: OptoCompiler. Today, Twan is CEO at New Origin, chiptech foundry for silicon nitride based integrated photonic chips.

He is an active promotor of photonic chip technology and sees it as his mission to enable the adoption and advancement of photonic ICs across various industries and applications, such as optical communication, automotive, consumer, and health. At this moment Twan is working with a great group of people to establish New Origin as independent pure-play photonic IC foundry with undisputed quality, industry-leading short turnaround times at the right cost.
