Connecting energy carriers for a reliable and resilient renewable energy system

By transitioning away from fossil energy, we are also saying goodbye to a great energy storage reservoir. Renewable energy comes and unfortunately also goes, in an uncontrollable, though reasonably predictable fashion. How can we match this with our desire to have dispatchable energy to fuel our economy. The answer is twofold: storage and conversion. The storage is the warehouse, the conversion enables to store in the warehouse under the most convenient form. To have a reliable, resilient and efficient energy system, a multi-carrier network is needed. In this talk we'll highlight how imec develops technologies for the conversion of energy from one form to another providing the connectors between the energy carriers, and how the connection of the physical and digital world manages those connectors, such that all of us can have affordable energy at a snap of a finger.
