Abstract: Overview of photonic platforms for 3D sensing & AR visualization
The advent of new systems that are building on integrated photonics & optics has gained very large interest in the sensor industry. The technological and scaling progresses are enabling a novel wave of component that can operate in a compact form factor at affordable price points. Whether this is for life style, medical diagnostics, LiDAR, entertainment and augmented reality, these systems are built on different thin film material - depending on the wavelength - system that can be fabricated in volume using wafer foundries.
During this presentation, an overview of different technology platforms will be shared to accomplish different functions in the field of Integrated photonics and free space optics. Specifically the various substrate & material system for waveguiding (in plane & out of plane) will be discussed, depending on the wavelength. Key metrics such as critical dimension control, refractive index and optical losses of Silicon (crystalline and amorphous), Silicon Nitride, Titanium dioxide will be discussed will be compared. When it comes to light generation, detection and high-performance light modulation, we will briefly introduce our vision for integration of electro-optic and phase change materials on wafer scale.
