Biography
Associate professor Robotics & AI, IDLab, imec research group at UGent
Francis wyffels is an associate professor with expertise in AI and robotics. At IDLab-AIRO (airo.ugent.be) he leads a dynamic and interdisciplinary team focusing on smart robotic manipulation and unconventional computing. In his research, the link between (robot) morphology, control and perception are central. With his interdisciplinary expertise in the domain of neural networks, embodied intelligence, sensor technology and robotics, as well as ongoing interdisciplinary collaborations within agriculture, retail and education, he is ready to discuss with you how to enhance your collaborative robots. Francis wyffels strongly engages in dissemination activities for which he has been awarded multiple times. Through international projects with children, students, and schools, he wants to ensure a more realistic perspective on what robotics and AI can achieve and reduce the almost innate fear that many people have.
