Jim Foresi

Jim Foresi is the Director of imec’s Automotive Semiconductor R&D Center at the University of Michigan. In this role, Jim oversees collaborative R&D programs, research operations, and stakeholder engagement to support advancements in the automotive industry while driving the growth of semiconductor expertise in Michigan.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, and a PhD in Materials Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
With a career spanning over 20 years, Jim has contributed to breakthroughs in silicon photonics, 3-D sensing components, and advanced lidar systems. Most recently, Jim served as a technical specialist in the advanced lidar group at General Motors, which focused on the development of cutting-edge autonomous sensing technologies for automotive applications.
