Barry Johnson - Division Director, Division of Translational Impacts, Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships, National Science Foundation
Barry W. Johnson is the Division Director for the Division of Translational Impacts within the Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships at the National Science Foundation (NSF). He also leads NSF’s CHIPS and Science Act Executive Steering Group and in this role reports to the Director of NSF. He also holds the position of L. A. Lacy Distinguished Professor of Engineering at the University of Virginia where he previously served as the Senior Associate Dean of Engineering from January 2006 to March 2015. Dr. Johnson earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia. He has published more than 150 technical articles, written several books, and is an inventor on more than 40 issued patents. Dr. Johnson is a Class of 2016 National Academy of Inventors Fellow for his contributions to invention and innovation in computer system safety and security including biometric-based identity verification. He is also a Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to fault-tolerant computing.
