Niels Vandervoort

Niels Vandervoort - Senior Project Manager, Janssen Pharmaceutica

Niels Vandervoort graduated as a Master of Science Chemical Engineer at KU Leuven in 2013 and started his career as an automation & application engineer in the petrochemical industry (ExxonMobil), before joining Janssen Pharmaceutica in 2015. He has gained experience in the various aspects of pharmaceutical development and production through various roles in operations, engineering, automation, and R&D process engineering, both within the drug substance and drug product organizations. 

Today, he combines these experiences in a role as Data & Systems Lead for the API small molecule pilot plants within Janssen, extending his scope of expertise to the broader Janssen Chemical R&D organization, where he is responsible for the digital transformation of the organization. This means implementing a data-to-decision way of developing and scaling up new pharmaceutical chemicals towards commercial launch and leading a pilot plant systems team that supports the plants from a plant systems (business support) perspective (IT/OT system landscape) in terms of planning, scheduling, process order management and execution.
