Biography

Data scientist ZOL and PhD candidate UHasselt

Myrte Barthels obtained her Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from KU Leuven in 2021. Shortly after graduation, she joined Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg as a data scientist and machine learning engineer. In partnership with Imec and Prof. Doctor Pieter Vandervoort, Myrte spearheaded a research project aimed at developing a deep learning algorithm that employed federated learning techniques to predict atrial fibrillation (AF).

Today, Myrte is leveraging her expertise to pursue a civic PhD in collaboration with Fibricheck at UHasselt. Her research focuses on developing new deep learning methods for risk assessment of AF using mHealth data.
